A hypothetical scenario where the collapse of whole human civilization and potential human extinction by direct or indirect effect of man made climate change and ecological breakdown.

This scenario is called as Climate apocalypse.

In this case, Earth may become uninhabitable as a result of extreme temperatures and severe weather events.

Recent report of United Nation’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change says, World has only a decade to limit the global warming to 1.5 degree Celsius by 2100.

If we failed to limit the same, the earth would warm by an average of 5 degree Celsius by 2100. This is called as Representative Concentration Pathway 8.5(RCP 8.5).

Recently, a group of climate scientists took the energy predictions from International Energy Agency into climate models and they predicted earth may warm by an average of 3 degree Celsius.

Steps to combat:

Reducing short lived climate pollutants like black carbon, methane, tropospheric ozone

Policy actions to transform into electric vehicles, carbon free aviation (E-plane)

Investing in Research and development for developing new techonologies to combat global warming

Phasing out of coal plants

Ban on single use plastic

Challenges:

Regional Inequality

Finance

To get developed countries on board
