Trakea is a forensic evidence management system which help in automating the whole procedure of forensics.

• In India, Trakea is used first time by Haryana Police and Forensic Laboratories.

Working of Trakea:

Trakea is a two stage barcoding system, to keep the secrecy of the samples with a strong and unbroken biometrically authenticated chain with functions to eliminate occurrences of pick and choose by anyone, through automatically allotting cases to scientists. And generating report, real time tracking of case status by e-mail and sms.

Advantages:

• Only authorized Investigating officers and forensic science experts can track the reports because of its barcoding system.
• Lesser chance of influencing the reports by anybody because no case detail is mentioned other than the bar code, which authenticates by biometric system.
• Real time online reporting of crime scene visits by Investigation officers.

Disadvantages:

• Digital systems are vulnerable to hacking.
• It works in an area, where we can access Internet.

Way Forward:

Developing this software into an mobile application will provide a platform for Investigation officers to report the crime scene visits in real time and further if it is integrated with Judicial system, it will reduce the time for deciding the cases. It further helps to reduce the pendency of the Judiciary.
